We have decided to sell our tour boats and retire from the business. Marie and I are both 70 years old and although we are both in good health, we also know we cannot keep doing this forever. It’s been over ten years and a lot of fun, but it’s time. Both boats are for sale. We will sell them together or separately.
Our operation here on the upper Hudson River and Champlain Canal has not only been personally rewarding but also beneficial for the community and the canal way. Continuation of the business' presence would be the easiest and most logical way to transfer ownership because the river and canal system is ideal water for either vessel, however this is not a requirement for the sale of the boats. If keeping the business within the community is acceptable, we would be happy to work out a purchase arrangement and stay involved for a reasonable period of time to support a smooth transition.
The CALDWELL BELLE is particularly well suited for service in the New York Canal System. She can carry a full bus load of passengers in addition to having one of the best crew requirements in the business, with only the Captain and one deckhand for her 60-passenger rating. Best of all, she will cruise all day at 6.5 mph with a full load of passengers on less than 1 gallon of diesel fuel per hour.
